Kinesio taping (an elastic taping method) is an emerging modality that offers great potential to reduce the impact of soft tissue and joint injuries while enhancing the healing process (Advanced Healing, October 2009, page 13).
Kinesio taping reached new heights thanks to gold medal beach volleyball star Kerri Walsh. Since that time Kinesio has made its way to the track, the pool, and on the court of the 2012 summer Olympics as a preventative and rehabilitation tool.
At Pure Health Acupuncture we believe all patients deserve to be treated like Olympians. Dr. Kenso Kase developed Kinesio taping as a means to extend the stimulation of the body’s natural healing process after treatment. It’s like receiving therapy for an additional 3-5 days following your office visit. Once we heard of Dr. Kase’s philosophy, we knew this method was right for Pure Health Acupuncture (Who Is Kenzo Kase, 2010).
Kinesio taping can help with chronic neck, shoulder, back, wrist, elbow, knee and heel pain. It is also has the potential to help with lower leg edema and post surgical swelling following knee replacement due to it’s ablity to increase blood and lymph flow which decreases swelling and provides support to the underlying muscles (Cole, 2009).

Large Bruise
I had hurt myself at work and due to being on blood thinners for my blood pressure had an extremely large bruise. It was approx the length of my forearm and as wide as my hand on my right abdomen and hip. It looked so bad I nearly canceled my appointment with Pure Health. BOY am I GLAD I didn’t!! After my acupuncture treatment Chris very gently taped over the area with special blue tape in a fan pattern. I noticed immediately it felt like a gentle truss taking some pressure off the area and reducing my pain. By the next morning the bruise looked so much better. Chris had said the taping would help direct the blood away from the area toward the lymph system. By day 3 I could barely tell I had a bruise. Edema of the Lower Legs
Before coming to Pure Health Acupuncture my legs were stiff and swollen and I had a hard time walking. My doctors attempts to treat with medications did not help very much. I can’t believe how much the swelling has come down after receiving treatment and Kinesio® Taping. I feel like I have new legs. I am now doing all my own housework and doing some outside work.
